Canonical Current State
One of the central distinctions of Realith is that the network must retain not only the history of what happened, but also canonical current state.
This term should be treated as the main one for the public corpus. Formulas like “current result” are admissible only as explanation.
What this means
Canonical current state is not an additional entity above the object and not a separate magical flag.
It is read through the linkage of:
- the object;
- the active version;
- the structure version;
- the structure properties;
- active relations;
- the contour context;
- previously recognized transitions.
In other words, state in Realith is held not separately from the model, but inside the model.
What must not be treated as sufficient
Canonical current state must not be reduced to:
- the last message in time;
- the last record seen locally;
- a private heuristic of an application;
- raw events without a distinguishable rule of recognition.
All of these models return the system to local reconstruction.
What “current” means in the expression “canonical current state”
Current does not mean merely latest by time.
Current means: this very configuration is what the network now holds as the valid basis for the next coordination.
From this it follows that:
- the next transition must rest not on an arbitrary local reading, but on the canonically held state;
- the next verifiable outcome must be linked precisely to it;
- later network layers must not arbitrarily redefine its meaning.
This is the main seam with the next architectural layer:
canonical current state is determined at the level of state logic; the lower canonization layer does not create it anew, but fixes it and links it to the network step of canonization.
What this does not mean
Canonical current state:
- is not a service promise;
- is not an external legal qualification;
- is not by itself a legal title;
- does not require full public disclosure of the entire internal history;
- is not equal to the last message that arrived.
It means only one thing: within the network canon, this configuration is currently considered valid.
Why this ties the whole project together
Without canonical current state, Realith loses its own meaning. The project then starts reading again as:
- an event archive;
- a messaging system;
- a platform of private reconciliation;
- an ordinary blockchain chain with added vocabulary.
It is precisely the retention of canonical current state that makes later layers of network canonization, epochs, and history compaction possible.
